Summary

Eager to join the working classes, Lady Rose Summer has abandoned the comforts of her parents' home to become self-supporting。 But life as a working woman isn't quite what Rose had imagined---long hours as a typist and nights spent in a dreary women's hostel are not very empowering when you're poor, cold, and tired。 Luckily for Rose, her drudgery comes to a merciful end when she learns of the untimely death of an acquaintance。

Freddy Pomfret, a silly and vacuous young man, was almost certainly up to no good before he was shot dead in his London flat。 When Rose discovers incriminating evidence pointing to several members of her class, she returns to London high society in order to investigate properly。 With the help of Captain Harry Cathcart and Superintendent Kerridge of Scotland Yard, Rose prepares to do the social rounds---uncovering a devious blackmail plot and an unexpected killer。

I’m really enjoying this series。 No nudity- no sex, which I find unnecessary to the story so I skip those books, it has dwindled my author list but a diligent search pays off as this series proves。 Davina Porter’s narration is just using on the cake。

Didnt finish it, quite mundane。 Quite good historical detail, action was a bit ludicrous, characters were very simply stylised, scenes with the characters were superficial or wooden。 The investigtive questions put by Harry and Rose were dull and did not create any sense of intrigue。 First book Ive read by this author, will try others but not in this Edwardian series。

This is a light, fun series。 If you are looking for a break from the serious, try these。 The audiobooks read by Davina Porter are delightful!

More of Lady Rose and Daisy's adventures! This is a long book, chock full of many adventures。 Highly recommended。 More of Lady Rose and Daisy's adventures! This is a long book, chock full of many adventures。 Highly recommended。 。。。more

A stronger installment than the first book。 Found myself not wanting to put down。 A few interesting subplots leading to solve final mystery。 I will say the sentence structure style is sometimes off putting。 Lots of simple sentences thrown in。。。not sure if this is stylistic choice but its noticeable。 Overall, I'm enjoying this series。 A good two afternoon read。 A stronger installment than the first book。 Found myself not wanting to put down。 A few interesting subplots leading to solve final mystery。 I will say the sentence structure style is sometimes off putting。 Lots of simple sentences thrown in。。。not sure if this is stylistic choice but its noticeable。 Overall, I'm enjoying this series。 A good two afternoon read。 。。。more

Another fun sill audible book。 I try to make my audible books a bit different than the current book I'm reading。 This fits the bill, light, fun murder mystery with a hint of romance。 Added bonus it's free with audible! Lady Rose: What a spoiled brat! Though Daisy seems quite a more down-to-earth and coloful character!

The second of her Edwardian mysteries about Lady Rose, Captain Cathcart, and their devoted servants。 Trying for independence, Lady Rose gets kidnapped, is committed to an asylum, and once again becomes embroiled in murder, while the dashing captain finds himself finding lost dogs, solving murders, and becoming the object of his spinster secretary's affections! I am enjoying this series about Lady Rose, Harry and Daisy。 I will say that the story was a bit cluttered with a few characters, however, it was well worth reading。 This time there's a bit of blackmail and murder to contend with and, once again, Daisy saves the day。 It is an interesting study in relationships。 I am enjoying this series about Lady Rose, Harry and Daisy。 I will say that the story was a bit cluttered with a few characters, however, it was well worth reading。 This time there's a bit of blackmail and murder to contend with and, once again, Daisy saves the day。 It is an interesting study in relationships。 。。。more

3。5 stars。 Good second book in the series。

Ivy Weston

Fun, and she throws in some cool details about day-to-day life for the aristocracy and servants in the Edwardian era。

Katie Bee

This is a caricatured parody, and may appeal to fans of that genre。 I stuck with it to the end, but I found it simply TOO broad a caricature for my taste。

Once in a while, I crave a "fluffy" mystery。 Having finished the Hamish Macbeth series, I assumed these Marion Chesney stories would do the trick。 Likable characters, easy plot to listen to (audio version), and the right number of possible suspects to keep me guessing。 Once in a while, I crave a "fluffy" mystery。 Having finished the Hamish Macbeth series, I assumed these Marion Chesney stories would do the trick。 Likable characters, easy plot to listen to (audio version), and the right number of possible suspects to keep me guessing。 。。。more

Lady Rose Summer chafes under the strict rules her parents impose as they hunt for a suitable husband for her in Edwardian high society。 When she takes a typing job and moves into a slum flat she quickly realizes that the life of an independent woman is not what she imagined it would be。 A murder among her own set gives her an excuse to return to the comforts of home, and provide assistance (however unwanted) to the handsome detective who has taken on the case。

Enjoyed this book so much more than the first in the series。 So glad I gave this series another chance。

I read this one in a day and absolutely enjoyed the heck out of it! It's not deep, it's not cozy, it's not particularly mystifying。。。。it's just good entertaining writing! I loved how the author disposed of particularly irritating or unlikable characters once they'd served their purpose; so many times I've thought to myself while reading a story, "I can't stand this 'Neville' character。 I wish he'd get lost。" and this author TAKES CARE OF THAT FOR ME! It's not exactly "rollicking", but it's defin I read this one in a day and absolutely enjoyed the heck out of it! It gets a 4 for keeping the gay character out of jail

Lady Rose decides to become a typist to join the working class。 She and her companion, Daisy, live in a boarding house, and before long they are on a murder case。 Captain Harry convinces them to move back home while investigating the murder of playboy Freddy。 Only MC Beaton can concoct a murder mystery with plenty of silly but fun scenes。

SuspenseLady Rose, complete with her companion Daisy get into more trouble, it'll take a strong man to reel her in and don't forget murder and blackmail。 SuspenseLady Rose, complete with her companion Daisy get into more trouble, it'll take a strong man to reel her in and don't forget murder and blackmail。 。。。more

good mystery!rose gets saved at the last minute a lot。 of course, she does solve a lot of mysteries herself。 indicative of the times that the truth rarely comes out since it would negatively impact her。 meh。

This book was better than the first。 The characters were more developed and the storyline felt more in-depth。 I can't wait to start book three and find out what kind of trouble Lady Rose, Daisey, Becket and Harry get into next。 This book was better than the first。 The characters were more developed and the storyline felt more in-depth。 I can't wait to start book three and find out what kind of trouble Lady Rose, Daisey, Becket and Harry get into next。 。。。more
